A Virtual Town Hall Being Held to Talk About Reforming the Towing Industry

The Ontario division of CAA, along with the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) and the Provincial Towing Association of Ontario (PTAO) will be hosting a virtual town hall to discuss the current challenges facing the towing industry in the province, and an overview of what the future of the industry could entail.

The webinar, held August 12 at 12:00 PM (EDT), is open to all attendees from the public. During the virtual discussion, they will have an opportunity to engage and provide feedback on planned reforms aimed at increasing consumer protection and road safety.

The virtual town hall comes after the Ontario government announced establishing a task force to improve provincial oversight of the towing industry in late June.

Towing in urbanized areas in southern Ontario has become challenging in the last several years with an increase in organized crime and violence. The task force is pledged to help develop a regulatory model to increase safety and enforcement, clarify protections for consumers, improve industry standards, and consider tougher penalties for violators.
